We shopped a number of Home Stores, websites, etc, looking for a B&D Workmate – We got the best price and best product from Amazon. The WM425 was easy to assemble and holds just about everything we need it to.
The product arrived exactly on the dtae promised, I actually saw the UPS truck stop, so I was able to open the door and have the delivery man put the box where I wanted it. After I got the table out of the box, I turned to the instruction sheet. I found the instructions VERY difficult to follow, although it was obvious to me what steps had to be taken and the order in which they should they should be taken. After some choice words to the unknown writers of the instructions, I was able to put together a “Thing of Beauty”. I have used the equipment on several projects and it has performed perfectly. I purchased this Workmate to replace one that I had for over twenty years. This one is much lighter than the older version and easier to move around and hang on the wall. Seems to have the same basic accessories as the older model, but the table insert makes a much bigger work surface when using as a work bench.

The Black & Decker WM425 Workmate is a handy, versatile, portable tool within its limitations. At the Amazon price it’s a no brainer. It is not a precision clamping device for fine woodworking nor a heavy duty work bench. It is, however, very useful and unique for some tasks. My advice to prospective buyers would be to examine one before you buy and visit some of the woodworking/handyman forums on the web for some opinions as to it’s suitability for your use.
Here’s what it’s all about: the front wood slat is attached to a screw mechanism and works sort of like a vise. It moves about 4″ in and out when you turn the handles. The two rear wood slats are removable and can be locked in at various distances from the front slat so you can clamp small or large things. The four legs fold in and out. The whole tabletop can be tilted and locked vertically 90 degrees. The unit is very sturdy and makes good use of the stamped steel frame geometry for rigidity while not weighing too much. It folds flat for storage. The folding mechanism is such that it will not accidentally collapse on you.
It’s “OK”, and beats using a pair of horses with an old door on top. But that’s about it. I was surprised to see that the “chain” used for the vise hand cranks was perforated vinyl tape. That being said, you can’t grip anything real tight, because the sprockets will slip in the holes. If you are over 5′ tall, the optional leg extensions are a necessity. Without using them, you’ll end up with a major back ache from bending so low.

That’s actually a more complicated question than it might seem at first.
The simple answer for anyone above 23 degrees latitude is to tilt at latitude, so if your house is at 35 degrees latitude, you would tilt at 35 degrees.
However, the best financial payback may be to optimize for summer (latitude + 15 in the northern hemisphere), if you have air conditioning bills that kick up your electric rates into the expensive tier. On the other hand, if you live in an area that gets very hot, the panel efficiency will go down, so it might be better to go latitude + 5 or so.
To optimize for Winter, the simple answer is latitude – 15, but again, not so simple, if there’s a chance you’ll get snow on the panels.
I have our panels set up so that I could readjust the tilt twice a year if desired, but I have never done so, yet. Too much trouble for a rooftop installation. And I’m concerned about 100 mph wind gusts picking up the panels in winter if I were to tilt them at a high angle. As far as I know, the vast majority of residential installations just follow the slope of the south-facing roof and take what they can get.
If you’re talking about water heating panels, I think the general practice is to just match the slope of the roof, and point them southwest (not south) in our area, because that’s the optimum balance between the sun and the daytime temperature.

Just wanted to add in the previous post – Accessories for men, because it gives good information – the magazine of MSR is better to buy new rebuilt – the bearings are of poor quality, and many people have problems their default values after only a few thousand miles. If you get it, you know that you probably need to upgrade the bearings in no time (or make sure that the replacement was done in advance). Otherwise, I was told is a very well put together kit. Its very easy to load the four-cylinder!
